We were delighted to welcome the Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust’s Media and Marketing team into Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Hartlepool this week as part of the Media Correspondent initiative. This inspiring project aims to give pupils real experience in journalism, storytelling and digital communication, helping them develop confidence and new skills that will support them throughout their education.

Launching Our New Media Correspondent Team

Our newly appointed student media correspondents proudly received their official badges, marking their new roles within the school. This recognition represents their commitment to sharing the stories, achievements and successes of our Sacred Heart community.

Throughout the session, the pupils had the opportunity to meet members of the Media and Marketing team, ask questions and learn about the work involved in capturing, recording and promoting school life across the Trust. They gained insight into reporting, interviewing, presenting and the importance of clear communication.

Hands‑On Experience Behind the Camera

The highlight of the visit was a special filming activity. Our pupils supported the team in recording a clip for a Trust‑wide Fratelli Tutti video, contributing to a project that will be shared across all Bishop Hogarth schools. This hands‑on experience gave them a taste of real media production, from camera presence to collaboration and creative thinking.

The children showed great enthusiasm, professionalism and teamwork throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of how confidently they embraced this new opportunity.

Building Skills for the Future

Taking part in the Media Correspondent initiative will help our pupils develop a wide range of valuable skills including:

  • Speaking and listening
  • Writing for different audiences
  • Digital literacy
  • Creativity and problem solving
  • Confidence in presenting ideas
  • Teamwork and responsibility

These experiences help children understand how media shapes communication in the modern world and offer a wonderful introduction to potential future careers in journalism, marketing or digital storytelling.

Exciting Work Ahead

We cannot wait to see the stories, celebrations and successes our new correspondents will help share with the school and wider Trust community. Their work will play an important role in capturing the heart of Sacred Heart and showcasing the incredible things that happen here every day.

The next generation of reporters is officially up and running. Watch this space for their first features.
